Prometheus came back to the valley before sunrise. The people were afraid of the red spark, so they moved away from him. He placed dry grass around it and showed them how to feed it with small branches. Soon a steady fire appeared, and the children reached their hands toward its warmth.

The gift led to many changes. People cooked grain, made safer tools, and protected themselves from wild animals. Prometheus warned them about the flame: it could save a home, but a careless hand could also destroy one. They promised to take care of it. That evening, every family shared the same fire instead of hiding alone. Far above the valley, however, Zeus noticed a new orange light shining where the earth had always been dark.
